Healthy Wife, Happy Life
Hello readers!
Thank you for being interested in my writing. To all that have followed along and any newbies!
I am writing this post today to share about my recent health journey. I had recently gotten in touch with a doctor I follow on social media. She is a women's health advocate, and specializes in treating unbalanced hormones naturally! I have been on testosterone pellets for over a year consecutively.
My testosterone levels have registered from <0 to 30 ng/dL from my past appointments. I went from getting 1 pellet to 2 pellets every 3 months. My body was soaking it up like a sponge! I asked my gynecologist if there was something else correlating to my low T. If my pituitary glands were functioning properly, etc. He basically said that pellets were the best solution and to be satisfied that there was a solution...it just didn't sit well with me that there wasn't further investigation considering my age and being so young for this problem to happen!
I then found Dr. Beth Westie. A true wonder woman.
I ordered this Dutch test, a urinalysis that is taken from evening to morning on different samples provided with directional times. It provides a more accurate reading verses a snapshot of a given time period where blood is drawn during the day. I've learned that our levels rise and fall throughout the day, so if there is a problem, a blood sample is not going to detect it if your levels are "in range."
I got my results back and YIKES! They were in range of a 40-50 year old woman! I'm just behind 30 and should NOT have these issues!
When I found out about my MTHFR gene mutation, I was told my body couldn't absorb folic acid. While that's not totally false, it also means my body has a hard time absorbing all other nutrients as well. MTHFR makes it difficult for the body to detox properly. So all of my estrogen levels were on the higher end and my liver wasn't detoxing the excess amount. Then I found out my adrenal glands were overworked, causing my fatigue and other symptoms I had expressed. I was also low in DHEA and my neurotransmitters were low as well.
Needless to say, no wonder I wasn't feeling good and had zero energy.
I've been on the slow and steady track of bringing these levels back up with supplements Dr. Westie recommended. I can already feel a difference and have more energy and feel alive again! Not just going through the motions as a mom, wife and business owner.
Although I might be taking milk thistle to help my liver, I'm also recognizing other factors where I might be needing to detox.
I read a meme that said, "if you eat organic and still are using products with toxic ingredients on your biggest organ-you're doing it wrong"
Have you read a bath and body works ingredient list? Woah...that's a long one. If you google some of those ingredients, you'll see that they're artificial, and also considered carcinogens. Our bodies work super hard to filter out toxins, alcohol, cigarettes, etc. Over time, it can be bad news for your liver. There's absolutely no way to be 100% toxic-free air pollution, etc. We, as conscience human beings, can make better consumption choices. We can acknowledge where we can cut out toxic products.

It's as easy as scanning or typing in a product! I use EWG's Healthy Living app. You can find it in the App store here
It will give you a rating on most brand items. The toxicity factors, ingredients and allergens. It takes out a lot of the guess work and ingredient searching!
If you don't know where to start, you could try household cleaning and consumer products. One of the first things I switched was our laundry detergent. I found these plant based detergent pods that were super cute in a glass jar for display. I personally like the lavender vanilla blend but they have other scents as well! One of these bags will last me over a month!
Also PLANTS! Indoor plants are so good for filtering the air in your home. If you're a candle burner, open your window a few times a week to let in some fresh air. Plants are also beautiful decor when placed in a unique planter or basket!
Another thing I've started implementing for myself and my family is investing in a water source. We would go through cases and cases of water bottles because we don't have a filtration system in our kitchen. I was feeling guilty at the waste we were creating so I found this cute, functional water dispenser on Amazon.
I also purchased this glass jug to go with the dispenser which is aesthetically pleasing in any kitchen!
Another option would be a filtration system for your kitchen faucet. A little pricey, but overtime will more than pay for itself.
I also have found seed cycling and eating for your cycle through Dr. Beth Westie. What it is, you eat certain types of foods that align with your cycle. For example, days 1-14 is your estrogen dominant phase and days 15-28 of your cycle is progesterone dominant. So you eat foods that basically compliment your body's natural hormones depending on your time of the month. Seed cycling works similar, pumpkin and flax are geared for your estrogen phase and sesame and sunflower are geared for your progesterone phase. She goes into depth on her social media page, her IG is @drbethwestie https://drbethwestie.com/
What I found in implementing this in my life, I had lower menstrual symptoms. Not feeling so bloated, mild cramping and less heavy bleeding! What a game changer! You can try these pre-blended seeds from Funk It Wellness that have it readily mixed and available to start no matter what day of the cycle you're on which makes it so convenient!
Over time, these small changes will really add up. Invest in your wellness, your health and lifestyle. You don't have to be tired and feel bad all the time. There are things you can start doing now, small baby steps that will be life changing in the long run! Drop a comment or follow my Instagram to get more health tips & advice!
